If you are looking for a cute, sweet senior who loves head rubs more than just about anything, then Sophia is your girl!
Sophia had a rough life with severe neglect. She was kept in a cage in Mexico and used for breeding. She was kept outside in hot weather and close to death from a massive hernia before she was brought to the US for an emergency surgery that saved her life.
Since then, she has been taken good care of and has had stability. She is an elderly girl, who is 12 years old. She is sweet and gentle and gets along well with our 10 and 13 year old children. She has limited vision from eye scarring due to her life experiences. She also has limited hearing and mobility. But don’t let that fool you! She can advocate for her caloric needs with a soft bark when she feels she has not been fed quickly enough!
She is a couch potato, who sleeps a lot in her retirement years! She isn’t used to going on walks, but will go out and walk a bit each day. She currently gets three/day and is willing to walk a little further each time. She moves slowly, but loves the smells of the outside world. She sleeps through the night in her dog bed. Sophia is unable to get onto furniture due to her mobility challenges.
She is working on potty training, and we believe she will respond well to crate or gate training. She is a happy eater and could lose a few pounds according to the vet. She’s curious and wags her tail when she smells a familiar person! She’s a great dog for someone looking to show love and patience to a sweet senior girl (don't forget the head rubs!).
