Adoption Process

So You Want To Adopt Your New Best Friend

Church of Pug is excited you're here!

Our process is simple. As dogs become available, our adoption team reviews applications with the goal of making the best rescue match. We take into consideration the dog's background and your family's needs. Every dog is different: personality, temperament, energy, comfort with kids and other animals, medical needs and more. We take all these factors into consideration when making a furever-home match. We are very careful about the placements we make. We do our best to match the right dog with the right adoptive home because we want this to be the pet's permanent home. We also get lots and lots of applications. We do our best to call everyone but simply put - there's just not enough hours in the day.

Do you live outside of the greater Seattle area? Not a problem. Please review requirements for adopting a dog from us if you live more outside of the Seattle area.

If you'd like to adopt, we urge you to consider fostering. Fostering is a great way to get to know the dogs in rescue without the commitment of adoption. Worried about not being able to give your foster away? Don't fret! As long as it's a good fit, Church of Pug loves it when our foster families decide to adopt! So, if you're not applying to adopt a particular dog and just looking to have an application on file, please consider fostering instead. (Church of Pug fosters all over Washington state - and even into Oregon too!)

you are an ideal candidate for Church of Pug. These precious dogs are well worth the wait.

OUR PROCESS

Apply

We're so excited you've made the decision to adopt and can't wait to discuss next steps with you. If you're ready to adopt, it's as simple as applying! Once you apply, our adoption team will be in contact!

Review

An adoption team reviews applications and will be in touch to discuss your application and potential matches.

Home Visit

Once your application review is complete, a Church of Pug volunteer will contact you to schedule a home visit discuss all-things pet. During the home visit, we look for potential hazards for the dog that the adopter may not have considered. All household members must be present during the home visit. This includes all pets.

In advance of the home visit, we ask adoption applicants to send short videos and pictures of their home. This helps expedite the process!

Finding Your Pet

Once approved to adopt, the search for your dog begins. Volunteers will begin to evaluate pets currently in our foster care program who may be a good fit for you and your family. We would also be open to discussing dogs in our care that you are specifically interested in.
