Giving up a pug that has been part of your family is not an easy thing to do. Please know that we understand and empathize with you at this time. There are many different types of situations that can cause a family to land here on this page. We are not here to judge your reasons; we are here to help.
We promise to treat you with kindness and respect. We also promise to keep your information confidential.
Thank you for taking the time to research Church of Pug. We wish you all the best and hope you consider Church of Pug as a great alternative to rehoming your pug yourself or relinquishing to a shelter.
The first step is filling out a surrender form.
Once we have that, a volunteer will be in touch to learn a little more about your dog to ensure we have the knowledge to help your pup, and us, be successful through the transition.
We know it's tough so we do our best to move fast and bring your pup into rescue.
We recognize it can be tough once the painful decision is made to move a pet into rescue. We will be in contact with you right away and we do our best to pick up every pup within 24-48 hours. We also understand sometimes families need a little more time to say goodbyes and that's ok too. We're here for you and will work around your schedule.
We're a 100% foster-based rescue. This means every pug that comes into our care lives and is treated as a cherished member of a family. This means snuggles on the couch, warm pet beds and lots of love. We do our best to maintain every aspect of the dog's routine and lifestyle rituals.
Every pug in our care will visit a Church of Pug veterinarian. We ensure their up-to-date on vaccines, exam, microchipped and spayed/neutered.
Once the pug is medically cleared, our adoption team gets to work - finding the best next chapter and happily ever furever for the pup.
Each adoption is slightly different but we'll be 100% transparent with you during your pug's time in rescue. You'll have a contact phone number you can reach out and we are happy to share pictures along the way until the dog is placed in a forever home. Don't hesitate to ask and we'll share what we can or tell you we can't.
You are welcome to send anything you would like with them, such as toys, beds, crates, food, leashes, etc. It can definitely help to have a loved bed, blankie or toy to keep with them through the transition.
You may also send nothing at all. We have beds, blankets, harnesses, leashes and everything to get them all set up right away!
Oh goodness, yes! We're here for your pug regardless of age.
We would never turn away any rescue due to old age. We recognize seniors aren't always easy and sometimes they need more than what we're prepared to provide. We're here for you.
We would never turn away any pug that's sick and are here to help you!
While we can't make any promises, we can definitely try our best. We have an amazing network of veterinarians we work with regularly and have lots of knowledge to help pugs in need.
Not a problem here. As we said, we're here to help. Sometimes it can take a few extra days to find a foster home but we promise we'll do our best.
Please be 100% transparent when it comes to behavioral issues so there are no surprises for anyone.
Absolutely! We're a pug rescue with a big heart. We accept all small brachycephalic breeds like french bulldogs and boston terriers! We accept mixes too!
Small non-brachycephalic breeds can also find sanctuary at Church of Pug on a case-by-case. We try hard to help where we can but also recognize we're a small breed rescue so our ability to accept larger dogs can be somewhat limited.
We totally understand how a private rehoming might feel more comfortable for you, since you'll get to know the new family a little. However, things can get tricky fast. Church of Pug will ensure all veterinary needs are taken care of in advance of permanent placement. We complete home checks to make sure the dog is going into a safe environment, conduct reference checks and spend time completing multiple interviews. We also have a contract that ensures the safety of the dog for the life of the dog.
We consider adoptions through our organization to be closed, meaning that we do not reveal the identities of either the surrendering or adopting parties. This ensures your privacy, as well as the privacy of the adopter, will be protected.
Church of Pug is honored to act as the liaison between parties and will do our best to pass along pictures and tidbits to the original owner.
There have been a few instances over the years at Church of Pug where we've been able to connect both parties but it's extremely rare.
No. Once you place your pug in the care of Church of Pug, after submitting the surrender contract, this indicates a permanent decision on your part. This legally binding contract gives full ownership of the dog to Church of Pug. This allows us to provide veterinary care and down the road, legally adopt out the dog to a carefully pre-screened 'forever' home. Please note:
"I had to surrender my sweet pug due to insurmountable hardship. I felt acknowledged with no judgement. My puggie was provided the very best care ++ and love during the most difficult time."
