Maui is a 9-year-old pug with everything people adore about the breed — the extra squish, the soulful eyes, and a heart that only knows how to love.
When Maui arrived at the shelter, his story could have ended there. He had been abandoned, left to suffer with a severe abscess that required immediate surgery, painful dental decay, and wounds that appeared to be from a dog attack. His little body had clearly endured far more than any dog ever should.
Because of his medical condition, Maui was placed on the euthanasia list.
But even through the pain, Maui never stopped being gentle.
Despite everything he had gone through — the neglect, the injuries, the fear of being alone — Maui greeted every person and every dog with kindness. No anger. No fear. Just a quiet sweetness that speaks to the incredible spirit inside this little pug.
Now safe in rescue, Maui is healing. He may carry a few extra pounds and a few scars from the life he survived, but what shines through most is his remarkable resilience. All Maui wants is what he should have had all along — a soft place to rest, a family to love, and the comfort of knowing he will never be abandoned again.
