Foster Resources – Medical

We rely on our fosters to help manage their pup’s medical care throughout the foster process until adoption.

Where to book an appointment depends on what’s required for the foster pup. Please do not book an appointment for your foster until you know what is actually required for your foster pup.

How to determine what veterinary care is required:

  • Check Buzz! You can look in the uploaded documents, medical tab and in the notes!
  • Reach out to Shelley (206) 992-0708.
Ideally vet visits are strategically scheduled to align with overall care plans, minimize trips to the vet and impact to the foster pup.
  • Tier 1 clinics are utilized for basic needs - exam, rabies, basic care stuff (ear infections type of thing).
  • Tier 2 clinics are utilized for spays/neuters/surgeries.
  • Dentals are only completed at Animal Clinic of Benson.
Care should be booked at a clinic that aligns to the overall needs of the foster.

What does this mean? Examples probably will help the best here...

  • For example, if your foster is seemingly healthy and needs a spay/neuter or has a growth/lump that you know will need to be removed, it makes zero financial sense to book an exam at a Tier 1 clinic. The required care for this pup will require them to undergo care at a Tier 2 clinic. Taking them to a Tier 1 clinic for an exam is redundant because we'll also have to pay for an exam at the Tier 2 clinic.
  • Alternatively, you get a foster that has a raging ear infection. It also needs to be spayed/neutered. Obviously, the pup needs to be seen, so either a Tier 1 or Tier 2 clinic is authorized.
  • Any questions, ASK! Shelley (206) 992-0708 .

ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS COORDINATE WITH SHELLEY OR HEATHER FOR VETERINARY CARE PRIOR TO PROCEEDING WITH CARE! What does this mean? It means, fosters do not have authority to make financial commitments (vet costs) for their foster dog.

Please ensure to record vet visits in Buzz and get hard copies of vaccine certificates to pass along to the adoptive family! Otherwise, please contact Dena 425-478-2102 and she can get it all recorded.

To book an appointment…

Simply call the clinic and book the appointment under the Church of Pug name of the dog. All of our clinics know us well and have a process in place to pay for approved services. Don't forget to call Shelley (206) 992-0708 for authorization of any treatment.

If you need help with transport to/from the vet….

If you need transport assistance, please connect with Shelley at (206) 992-0708 to coordinate.

Veterinary Clinics (Preferred)

Have a favorite clinic that’s not on this list? We’re always looking for new vet clinics! Bonus, we find our best veterinary clinics through referrals by our fosters! If you want to call your clinic and ask if they offer a discount for 501c3 nonprofits, we’d be thrilled to expand our network! If they need to talk to someone in rescue or need our 501c3 paperwork, we’re happy to do that!
